Donald Trump’s ‘bleeding facelift’ tweet is just a distraction from the Trump-Russia collusion bombshell
All week we’ve seen increasing evidence that the Trump-Russia collusion bombshell is coming. Participants in the scandal have been lining up their ducks before it lands. Donald Trump himself has begun preemptively defending himself against collusion, using that word in the process, even falsely accusing President Obama of collusion, because he knows what’s coming. But today Trump’s ultimate wacko tweet served to signal just how soon he thinks it’s coming.
Donald Trump didn’t merely wake up today and decide to launch a profoundly vulgar attack on Mika Brzezinski at random. Sure, they hate each other. But she’s been using her MSNBC show to criticize him for months. So why now? Because by doing something as horrible as accusing her of having shown up to his house with a bleeding facelift, he just dictated what today’s and tomorrow’s news cycles will focus on. Sure, it’ll be some of the most negative coverage he’s received to date. But it means if the collusion bombshell drops in the next day or two, it’ll have to compete for headlines and airspace with the ‘Trump is a deranged sexist’ storyline.
There are also other signs that the Trump-Russia collusion bombshell is imminent. Russia recalled its controversial Ambassador. Paul Manafort finally registered as a foreign agent. And the Wall Street Journal rushed out a half finished story about an alleged Michael Flynn collusion partner tonight because it wanted to get it out the door before a competing newspaper drops the real collusion bombshell.
So yeah, everyone on the inside thinks the bombshell is coming any day, any hour, any minute. And Donald Trump thinks it’s coming so soon that today was the day he decided to set himself on fire as a distraction from the more toxic firestorm that’s just around the corner. In other words, buckle up.
