Donald Trump has no idea the Democrats won a U.S. Congress special election earlier this month

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump seems very excited that his party just plummeted by seventeen points in Georgia’s 6th District over an eight month period. He doesn’t seem to understand that the Republican Party only approved his plucking of Tom Price from that district for his cabinet, because the resulting special election should have been an automatic blowout win. He doesn’t get that last night’s results were a devastating blow to the GOP, which all but ensures the Democrats wil take the House and Senate in the midterms. Even more strangely, Trump doesn’t seem to even be aware that another U.S. Congress Special election took place earlier this month and the Democrats won it.

Last night, after Republican Karen Handel notched what might be the worst and most worrying “win” for the Republicans in their party’s history, Donald Trump tweeted “Well, the Special Elections are over and those that want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN are 5 and O!” (link). But someone should probably tell him that California’s 34th District held a special election for U.S. Congress on June 6th, and that Democrat Jimmy Gomez won the race in a twenty-nine point blowout, according to Ballotpedia (link). But then again, Trump only gets his political “news” from cable news, which only bothers to report on things that it can hype.

So why were the Democrats so easily able to win the CA-34 when these other special elections have been struggles? Again, it’s all been by design. The California special election was created when the Democratic Governor plucked a Democratic congressman from a strongly Democratic district for a state-level role. So, to the surprise of no one, the Democrats won that special election in a blowout.

Accordingly the special elections in Georgia, Kansas, and South Carolina were created when the Republican White House plucked Republicans from strongly Republican districts, under the assumption that they would win those special elections in blowouts. Instead the Republicans struggled badly in those elections, having to massively overspend just to hang on by a couple points when they should have won by twenty points.

Part of the problem is that, because cable news only reports on things that they’re able to hype, none of the cable news networks bothered to give any real coverage to the special election in California. And why would they bother? They all knew the Democrats would win it in a blowout. Instead cable news put all the focus on the special elections that the Republicans were supposed to win in blowouts, because the Democrats were shockingly competitive in those races. As a result, Trump has no idea the Democrats won a major special election this month in a blowout. For that matter, many in anti-Trump resistance aren’t aware of it either.
