Donald Trump hired massage therapist for key Department of Energy job; fired after racist remarks

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

What’s worse: getting caught appointing someone to a key job at the Department of Energy whose only previous work experience was as a massage therapist, or having to fire the guy just weeks later because you hadn’t bothered to vet the string of racist and genocidal posts on his Facebook and Twitter pages? That’s the question now facing Donald Trump.

The story comes to us by way of Politico, in which Donald Trump and his administration hired Sid Bowdidge to a Department of Energy job simply because he had worked on the Trump campaign. They gave him a serious job, too, the kind where you get a nameplate on your desk. It was a case of classic cronyism, handing a political appointment to someone who wasn’t remotely qualified for it, simply for having been politically loyal during an election. Trump promised he would “drain the swamp” but instead this is yet another example of Trump turning Washington DC into a swamp. And that’s before getting to the part where the guy had to be fired for being a bloodthirsty racist.

At one point Bowdidge went on an idiotic Twitter rant insisting that “Obama won’t use the term radical Islam because they’re his relatives!!!!” – thus aligning him with Donald Trump in terms of racist remarks about the former President, and in overuse of punctuation. But then Bowdidge’s tweets took a turn for the genocidal, attacking Muslims as “Scum sucking maggots of the world” and vowing to “Exterminate them all.”

Remarkably, these racist social media posts were made before the Trump administration appointed Bowdidge to the Department of Energy. So if they had even vaguely vetted him first, they would have discovered the remarks. Or perhaps they did, and they didn’t care. Then again, Trump’s DOE is being run by Rick Perry, a guy whose last job was on Dancing With The Stars. So it’s not as if qualifications matter in Trump’s swamp. Politico has the full story about the ludicrous hiring and embarrassing firing.
