Donald Trump goes off deep end, begins incoherently tweeting about “covfefe”
For the past three days we’ve seen a number of signs that Donald Trump’s Twitter account had been fully taken over by his handlers. But if they took away his phone so he couldn’t tweet anymore, then it looks like he finally got it back tonight. Just after midnight, Trump tried to begin what looked like it was going to be yet another angry Twitter rant about the media. But instead he misfired in a way that’s almost too good to be true.
Here’s what Donald Trump tweeted 12:06am eastern time:
What in the hell is covfefe? There’s a decent chance he was aiming for “press coverage” and got lost somewhere in his keyboard. But it doesn’t look like anyone is minding the store, because the errant tweet has already received more than five thousand retweets, and thirteen minutes later, it still hasn’t been deleted or replaced.
Does Trump not know that he posted an incoherent tweet about covfefe? Is he unsure of how to delete a bad tweet, and he’s in the process of waking up someone in the White House who can delete it for him? And so, even as Trump was looking to make a defiant statement about something that had angered him, he ended up unwittingly tweeting the punchline of the day. It’s so bad for him that “covfefe” has instantly become a top ten trending topic on Twitter. Update: “covfefe” is now the number one trending topic, and twenty minutes later, Trump still hasn’t deleted the tweet.
