Donald Trump thinks he’s finally figured out the conspiracy against him
Donald Trump is, for the moment, the most powerful individual in the world. That’s not enough for him, of course. He’s spent so much of his time and focus obsessing over his three million vote loss to Hillary Clinton in the popular vote, it’s played a big part in making him historically unpopular. When he’s ousted for his Russia crimes, and he will be, it’ll be made easier by that deep unpopularity. But don’t tell that to Trump. He’s popping the champagne, because he thinks he’s finally figured out the conspiracy against him.
Here’s what actually happened: months ago, Special Counsel Robert Mueller removed an FBI agent from his Trump-Russia investigation because the agent had expressed anti Trump views in text messages. Investigators all have their own political views. They all vote. There is nothing surprising about one of the agents in question having voted for Clinton. For that matter, Mueller himself belongs to the same Republican Party as Donald Trump. Mueller’s decision to bench this agent proves that he’s not even willing to allow the mere appearance of impropriety. Trump, however, has a widely different interpretation.
Trump retweeted this bizarre nonsense: “Wray needs to clean house. Now we know the politicization even worse than McCabe’s ties to McAuliffe/Clinton. It also infected his top investigator PETER STRZOK, who sent texts bashing Trump & praising Hillary during campaign. Strzok led Hillary probe & supervised Trump probe!” Then he added this: “Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI “agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.” Led Clinton Email probe. Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge.” Because that wasn’t stupid enough, he also added this: “After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.” Wait for it, though.
After all that bizarre and baseless ranting which revealed him to be completely collapsing into an agitated haze of incoherent paranoia, Donald Trump summed it up this way: “ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE. Now it all starts to make sense!” That’s right, he’s finally figured out the (nonexistent) conspiracy against him. He only lost by three million votes because the FBI somehow rigged the election against him. His own decision to conspire with Russia to rig the election will take him down. His deranged obsession with the imaginary conspiracy against him is why he won’t be able to put up much of a fight on his way out.
