In addition to everything else that’s morally, psychologically, and criminally wrong with Donald Trump, there’s no longer any mistaking the harsh reality that he’s gone senile. Trump can’t make it through a speech without becoming totally incoherent. He can’t make it through a public event without getting confused and wandering off. His senility was horrifyingly on display on Friday when he met with a group of children.

As part of a Halloween tradition, Trump hosted the young children of the White House press corps in the Oval Office. They were all in costume, and his job was to give them candy. This seemed like the kind of thing that even Trump shouldn’t have been able to screw up, yet he promptly found a way. It wasn’t just that he said horrible things to the kids about their reporter parents, which probably went over the kids’ heads anyway. It was when he began commenting about the kids’ weight.

After Trump gave out Hershey’s kisses to the kids, he said “You have no weight problems. That’s the good news, right?” (link). Trump is a vulgar man in general, with no sense of boundaries and no understanding of what’s appropriate. It wouldn’t have been surprising at all to hear him say something like this to a room full of adults. But even an utter vulgarian would understand that this is not the kind of thing you say to children. This was something else. It wasn’t inappropriateness. It was that Trump had absolutely no idea or awareness of whom he was talking to – and it wasn’t the first time.

When Donald Trump gave a speech to a group of Boy Scouts, he promptly went off on a tangent about his friend who was doing unspeakable things on a yacht. It was another example of Trump being too far gone mentally to have any idea who he’s speaking to or what he’s supposed to be saying. He’s simply gone senile – and we don’t say that lightly.
