Donald Trump brags that it’s going to be a “big week!” He’s right – but he’s going to hate it.
Apart from an obligatory and generic Labor Day tweet that was clearly posted by his handlers, Donald Trump had gone nearly a day and a half without posting anything on Twitter. Nevermind that much of Texas is still underwater, or that California is burning, or that Florida is about to get hit by a hurricane that may be even more devastating than Harvey. That’s all fine and dandy, because what Trump lacked in quantity this weekend, he finally made up for with a lack of quality.
Late on Monday night, Donald Trump finally found his voice again when he tweeted “Big week coming up!” Seriously, that’s all he wrote. He’s about to destroy the lives of eight hundred thousand innocent American children by rolling back DACA, even as he does it on a six month delay, forcing Congress to decide what to do with these kids. He screwed up his visit to the Texas floods so badly that he had to ask for a do-over and go back a second time. Trump is right, however. This is going to be a big week – just not the kind of week he’s hoping for.
Hurricane Irma is projected to come close enough to South Florida that it’ll cause major problems on some still-unknown level. This comes even as federal resources are still trying to salvage the mess in Texas. It’s the kind of situation that requires skillful, organized, and empathetic leadership. Trump has already demonstrated that he’s incapable of any of the above. One can only hope that the storm damage will be held to a minimum. Everyone already knows Trump will botch his response. In fact he’s already botched it by tweeting “Big week coming up!” just as a major hurricane is about to hit the United States. Who does that?
Last week Donald Trump’s Russia scandal took a new turn so devastating for him, it should have him reaching for a fresh pair of pants. His true motivation for colluding with Putin during the election, the Trump Tower Moscow project, has finally been exposed. His long-secret letter, in which he incriminated himself on obstruction of justice before his own counsel scuttled it, is now in the hands of investigators. Things are now in motion on the Russia front such that they’ve taken on a life of their own. This is indeed a big week coming up, at least for those looking to oust him.
