Ben Carson’s top advisor fired and escorted out of building for criticizing Donald Trump
‘Ben Carson surprised to learn that his own top advisor had been fired’ may be the most Ben Carson storyline of all time, as the famously oblivious HUD Secretary wasn’t even aware of the development until after the fact. However, this is anything but a flippant storyline. After it was discovered that the advisor had criticized Donald Trump during the election, he was fired and escorted out of the building without Carson even being given any say on the matter.
Shermichael Singleton was serving as a top advisor to Ben Carson at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and had been working closely with Carson during his Senate confirmation process. But when it was discovered this week that Singleton had written an op-ed critical of Donald Trump in October, he was immediately fired and escorted out by security. CNN is confirming that Carson was only told about the firing afterward, and that he was surprised to learn that it had happened.
This makes two things clear. The first is that Ben Carson, who is fully unqualified for the job and who seemingly suffers from severe mental or psychological problems, is not remotely in charge at HUD, despite holding the HUD Secretary title — which is a concern in and of itself. Just who is running this agency? The second is that even republican advisors who are personally valued by Donald Trump’s own cabinet members aren’t safe if it turns out they’ve ever said anything negative about Trump at any point.
