After Robert Mueller files criminal charges, befuddled Donald Trump tweets “What happened?”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

If you’re looking for evidence that Donald Trump truly has gone senile, and that he’s as cut off from the outside world as has been suggested, you need look no further than his first tweet after the news broke on Friday night that Special Counsel Robert Mueller had filed his first criminal charges in the Trump-Russia scandal. In a word, Trump was left nothing short of befuddled at the news.

Here’s the thing: everyone with their thinking cap on knew that this was coming. Trump’s Republican allies in Congress spent days telegraphing it as they shouted from the rooftops about imaginary scandals involving Russia and Hillary Clinton. They were desperate to create any momentary diversion they could think of, because they knew these criminal charges were about to land, they knew it was going to be debilitating to Trump’s prospects, and they knew it would throw a huge monkey wrench in their tax plan. Yet it appears Trump truly did not know this was coming.

Trump surely learned of the news on Friday night, even though Fox News didn’t bother covering it, because his own co-conspirators surely called him to ask if he knew who had been charged. An hour and a half after the news broke about the criminal charges, Trump took to Twitter and unwittingly revealed that he was fully unprepared to deflect from the scandal. It was so bad that his first two words were literally “What happened?”

It turned out Donald Trump couldn’t come up with much of anything to say at all. After his two word opening, he posted a link to a phony tabloid article falsely claiming that Hillary Clinton colluded with Russia. Then he simply added “NOW WE KNOW!” Oh yes, we do. We all know Trump is in deep trouble. We’ve all known it for days. Five hours before the story broke, Palmer Report ran the headline “Robert Mueller is about to serve up his Trump-Russia indictments.” It was just that obvious that this was all coming. Everyone on all sides seemed to know it – except for Trump himself. Contribute to Palmer Report
