3 Doors Down threw a guy out for hitting a woman. How can they perform for Donald Trump?
Donald Trump has finally found a popular rock band to perform at his divisive inauguration, and no, we’re not talking about the Bruce Springsteen tribute band that’s been booked for one of the inaugural galas. The rock band 3 Doors Down, which has had a number of hit songs over the past two decades, has been announced as one of Trump’s headliners. It leads to the question: how can a band, which once threw a guy out for hitting a woman, now turn around and perform for an admitted serial sexual predator?
Just six months ago, 3 Doors Down lead singer Brad Arnold stopped a concertina mid-song when he saw a fan hitting a woman near the stage. Arnold yelled “You don’t hit a woman… You just pushed a woman out of the way to get in a fight, you dick!” and promptly had him ejected from the show before resuming the song. It was a moment which brought the band, which has a large number of fans but has always been derided by critics, a good deal well earned positive attention.
And yet now 3 Doors Down is going to turn around and waste that goodwill by aligning themselves with Donald Trump, whose most famous quote is “grab ’em by the p*ssy.” Trump hasn’t merely been accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women; he’s been caught bragging on tape about how he gets away with it. And yet the band that threw a guy out for assaulting a woman is now going to perform for a guy who regularly assaults women? Regardless of whatever political leanings the band may have, it just doesn’t make sense.
