Steve Bannon is back front and center in the Donald Trump debacle
The slithering mass of molecules known as Steve Bannon has once again resurfaced from the depths of Donald Trump’s backyard, otherwise known as The Swamp. Bannon denies working alongside Trump and the Republican National Committee in his latest endeavors, probably because he is so radioactive to their brand, reduced as it may be. Bannon has created a PAC of 25 members, 10 of which came from Trump’s campaign, that is designed to shape the flow of information coming out of the Republican side of D.C.
To further cement the delusion that Trump is good for America, Bannon has also created a documentary titled “Trump@War” to be released on the two-year anniversary date of when Hilary Clinton called half of Trump supporters “deplorables.” The documentary is rumored to be one sided in its coverage, touting Trump as the populist president who defeated his vengeful enemies. But if Trump were actually as popular as the documentary is portraying him to be, then this fanfiction campaign launched by Bannon would not be necessary.
Many remain unconvinced that Trump and Bannon are not working together on this media offensive scheduled between now and November. A campaign like this, designed to flood the media circuit, is not cheap. Just what backchannels did the money slide through this time? For the first time, Putin has a strong foothold in America and he would be remiss if he did not press his advantage to the fullest extent to prevent losing it. Given the current climate, it is doubtful the Kremlin got the money to Bannon directly, but no one would be surprised if it came from some secondary source, a tributary off the main pipeline, so to speak. Bannon has yet to disclose the funding for his adventures.
America does not need nor want someone of Steve Bannon’s caliber controlling Donald Trump’s image. Bannon has a sketchy back story like most of Trump’s associates and he seems to be borrowing a page from Trump’s playbook, hiring people like Sheriff David Clarke, a visitor to the Kremlin, to join his organization. Bannon has also been known to associate with other characters like alt-right writer Mike Cernovich, in his effort to spread illegitimate news aimed at undermining the opposition. If the Republican Party wants to recover from its slumming with the Trumps then it needs to firmly and loudly denounce any association with Steve Bannon.
