Here comes Merrick Garland

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Merrick Garland is on his way to being confirmed as President Biden’s Attorney General, with the dates of his confirmation hearing scheduled for February 22 and February 23. Folks, this is good news. Garland will make a great Attorney General. However, there is one thing that we MUST not let happen.

What is that thing? That thing is putting Garland on a pedestal so high that he will never be able to live up to it. The media has a habit of doing this with people, and it drives me bonkers. We already see the signs in Garland’s case, and I don’t want you to fall for it.

Reporters are starting to question whether Garland is up to the task of investigating Trump. The answer to that question is, of course, he is. One journalist I like very much, Joy Reid, commented that she does not “see Batman” when she looks at Garland. I love Joy Reid. She is superb. But comments like this bother me. Garland is a smart and distinguished Judge who has made a name for himself. He’s served on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia since 1997. He was a nominee for the United States Supreme Court per Obama.

Garland will go where the evidence leads him. But the last thing the Democratic party needs to do is start beating up on Garland before he is even in his new job. And we must never forget all the other investigations into Trump, both criminal and civil. Merrick Garland is not Batman. He’s Merrick Garland. He will make an excellent Attorney General.
