This is sick, even for Mitch McConnell – and he’s getting desperate
Mitch McConnell is just reprehensible. Not only is he filibustering the bill that would create commission to investigate the Jan. 6th insurrection in order to prevent similar attacks on the Capitol in the future, he is attempting to make sure no Republicans vote in favor of it.
Gladys Sicknick, the mother of slain Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, visited the Capitol today, requesting GOP Senators meet with her so that she could stress the importance to her and others of the formation of the bipartisan independent commission. Only 14 agreed to meet with her, but that was reportedly enough for McConnell to grow concerned.
According to news reports including CNN, McConnell has gone to every GOP Senator he thought might vote in favor of the commission, and asked them to vote against it as a “personal favor” to him. Many were shocked that McConnell would go so far as to request a personal favor on a bill such as this, but they shouldn’t be surprised. McConnell knows he is going to look like the totally despicable leader and human being that he is when he mounts the filibuster against the bill, so he is trying to ensure that all the rest of the GOP Senators appear to be just as despicable as him for going along with it.
