The Republican death cult just upped its game

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This week Governors Greg Abbott (R-TX) and Tate Reeves (R- MS) did not even bother to hide their flim flam and misdirection. They are hoping citizens in their states will not notice that their water is poisonous or still not running if they are preoccupied with fighting off Covid-19. This week both announced the end of mask mandates in their states. Texas statistics just came back online because of the power outage, but their seven day case average is up and Mississippi public health is reporting ongoing outbreaks at long term facilities. In typical Republican lockstep several other states also run by Republicans immediately decided to also drop their mask mandates.

President Biden presented good news on Tuesday announcing that there will be enough vaccines for every adult by the end of May. Did these governors misunderstand this as meaning the pandemic was over? I doubt it. What we should believe is that the GOP values commerce over lives. There are too many instances to enumerate but Texas Lt Governor Dan Patrick summed it up best early on when he stated that he knew “lots of grandparents” who would be willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the economy. Really? Luckily we voted in a humane Congress and President so for now we won’t have to find out the answer to this question.
