Susan Collins is concerned

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Senator Susan Collins is deeply concerned. Heard those words before? Of course, you have! Senator Collins, who surprisingly won her Senate race in Maine easily, seemed to be concerned about almost everything in politics. But she rarely does anything about this concern.

Now, multiple news outlets report that Senator Collins is miffed at how the Biden administration handled the COVID Relief Bill’s passage. And she is deeply concerned over why the Biden administration “would want to alienate the Republican most likely to work with them to find common ground.”

Although Collins has said she gets along with Biden, she is deeply concerned that some of his staff members and friends are getting in the way of his working with Collins, the Maine Senator said.

This is, of course, nonsense. Biden has made several calls to Collins and sought her input on the bill and the input of many other Republicans. But ultimately, Biden is the President…not Senator Collins. If Collins is so upset at the lack of unity, perhaps the person she needs to talk to is Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Not one Republican voted for Biden’s COVID Bill. And it does not seem that any are all in on passing voter legislation either. The Republicans do not seem to want to do anything other than obstruct.

Instead of furrowing her brow and taking it personally when Biden doesn’t do exactly as she wants, maybe Senator Collins should get behind him on Voting rights and try to bring a few Republicans on board.

That, of course, will not happen because the Maine Senator seems content to remain in her bubble of denial on all things Republican. It’s a shame. Because the only person holding Senator Collins back from promoting positive change is Senator Collins herself.
