Serves them right

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Let’s file this under either ‘Can’t Stop Laughing’ or ‘Serves You Right.’ It’s been reported in the ‘failing’ New York Times that earnest supporters of the Man from Mar-a-Lago have been duped! ‘What? How could that be?’ you are probably saying between raucous guffaws but yes, it’s twue, it’s twue!

(Insert mirthful schadenfreude here.)

In an article entitled ‘How Trump Steered Supporters Into Unwitting Donations’ (chortle), Shane Goldmacher reports that a ‘scheme to boost revenues by the Trump campaign and the for-profit company that processed its online donations, WinRed’ led to several supporters of ’He-who-shall-not-be named-until indicted’ being bilked out of thousands.

‘Gee, and the Orange Florida Man seemed like such an honest, forthright, trustworthy guy,’ I hear none of you muttering to yourselves. Grifters will grift, right?

According to Mr Goldmacher, the scheme was as devilishly simple it was diabolical and disastrous for those who got conned by the Former Guy. It’s so simple that the scheme has a name; a ‘money-bomb.’

Here’s how it worked: Suckers (ahem ) I mean ‘supporters’ would choose to contribute to the private coffers of the Orange One. One such schmuck (…er…) contributor was Stacy Blatt, a 63-year-old cancer patient. Mr Blatt thought best to contribute $500 to the self-proclaimed billionaire – you heard right.

Unbeknownst to Mr Blatt, hidden in the small print of disclaimers and lawyer-babble was a ‘money bomb;’ a little pre-checked box which had to be un-checked – Yes, that’s right; UN-checked! – or the donation became a monthly obligation! Mr Blatt’s $500 donation became a $3,000 grift automatically withdrawn from Blatt’s account before it was stopped.

Another mark… (scratch that…) Another poor soul, lost $8000 to the Scamster from Queens. Jason Miller – the-toad-who-would-be-human – downplayed the rash of fraud complaints. In all, $122.7 million were refunded to duped MAGA-mutts.
