Ron DeSantis plummets in 2024 polling

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Early 2024 Presidential polls (excluding President Biden and the former guy) put Kamala Harris in the lead, and DeSantis’ previous GOP lead has dropped significantly. While Biden has said he will run (and he should), he will turn 82 in 2024. The former guy has hinted he might run, but we all know he will be tied up. Even if he weren’t, many believe he would not run in 2024 for fear of losing again.

An open-wide Democratic primary contest, according to a mid-May poll by GOP pollster McLaughlin & Associates, puts Harris at 35%, Michelle Obama at 16% (whom I doubt would ever run — she doesn’t even like politics), and Rep. AOC at 7%. A Trafalgar Group poll in early May put Harris at 41%, Pete Buttgieg at 9% and AOC at 7%.

On the GOP side, an Echelon Insights poll released Friday has DeSantis in the lead at 22%, former VP Pence at 14%, Sen. Ted Cruz at 9%, and Nikki Haley at 5%. A Trafalgar poll in early May had DeSantis at 35%, Cruz at 15% and Pence at 10%.

Bear in mind, this is way early to be predicting 2024 winners, but it’s still very notable that recent polls have DeSantis’ lead dropping 13% in less than a month.
