Merrick Garland comes out swinging

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

I like Merrick Garland. There are not that many in Biden’s cabinet who have had a rougher time of it in the last few months than Garland. All over the place, complaints about him have been swirling. I have much faith in our AG. His record speaks for himself.

Most of you are aware of how dire things have become for those individuals struggling to pay their rent. The Supreme Court did throw out the eviction freeze, and that is a huge issue.

Now, per The Independent, Garland is calling on everybody within the legal community to come forward and do their best to help struggling Americans. Garland wants all legal agencies, firms, schools to pitch in and help.

Per press secretary Jen Psaki, Garland has personally urged them to get involved and has deemed this a public health emergency. Psaki says Garland wants to “ensure access to justice for vulnerable tenants.”

Money from the Emergency Rental Assistance program is trickling out but at a much slower pace than it should be. Garland is urging those in Legal Aid to represent some of the renters.

Several states are continuing some sort of eviction ban for the time being. Those states include California (at least unless Elder wins), which will keep them in place until September.

New Jersey and DC will keep them in place until at least the end of this year. We thank Garland for taking this seriously and working hard for American families to ensure they do not lose their homes.
