Donald Trump loses either way
Lead Impeachment Manager Jaime Raskin just issued a response to Trump’s refusal to testify, and already some people are going off the rails demanding the Democrats “grow a spine” and subpoena him.
Could they subpoena him? Sure. But, knowing as they do that Trump is one of the most litigious individuals to inhabit the planet, they know he’d fashion some BS argument to try to contest it in court, which would only delay the trial. This is not to say they won’t subpoena him, but whatever they’ve decided, I’m not worried. The House Impeachment team is stacked with experienced trial lawyers.
Jaime Raskin was a professor of constitutional law for more than 25 years. Ted Lieu is a former prosecutor in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. David Cicciline was a public defender in D.C. Eric Swalwell is a former prosecutor. And, Stacey Plaskett was an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx.
And, as if that weren’t enough, rounding out the team, Madeleine Dean was a lawyer in private practice. Joe Neguse and Joaquín Castro were both litigators in private practice. And, Diana DeGette was a Civil Rights lawyer. Trump’s refusal to testify speaks volumes, and you can bet they will keep hammering this home. So, breathe easy. Whatever they decide, I’m pretty sure they’ve got this.
