Good news for Democrats out of Ohio and Pennsylvania
Congressman Tim Ryan (D-13th District, OH) announced on Wednesday that he is giving consideration to running for the Senate seat soon to be vacated by Republican Rob Portman. This is incredibly exciting news: the 13th District of Ohio went very strongly for Trump in November and in 2016, but Ryan, a Democrat, won easy re-election both times. His crossover appeal to Trump voters in an increasingly hardcore red state like Ohio makes him a promising candidate for that seat. He has been around long enough to have significant name recognition outside of his Congressional district as well.
Here’s what you need to remember: midterm elections are next year. While we just got through a very long, very contentious election season and came out victorious (albeit a bit bruised and battered), this is absolutely no time to rest on our laurels, so to speak. We must get behind every Democrat seeking a Senate seat in order to enlarge our Senate majority and we must ensure that we absolutely must keep the House of Representatives as well.
This is going to take a great deal of hard work on our part. We must keep up the activism that got us to this point. No let up, folks. Too much is at stake for us to grow complacent now. Start by supporting the Senate candidacies of Tim Ryan of Ohio and Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. We can do this. We must. We have no choice anymore.
