Finishing off Greg Abbott
I feel sympathy for the good people of Texas.
The storms that gripped Texas were a tragedy. And now they are facing a feckless and cruel Governor. He has decided it is perfectly fine for businesses to reopen across the board and dispose of Texans’ protecting themselves and each other by wearing masks.
Beto O’Rourke has called Governor Abbott’s decisions “a Death Warrant” for Texans. Texans do not have leadership in place that genuinely cares about them. Instead, they have science deniers and Trump sycophants. So what can be done?
First off, Abbott is up for reelection in 2022. His recent decisions will not increase his popularity. Texas needs new leadership.
There has been talk about Beto O’Rourke challenging Abbott in 2022 and running for Governor. Texas is a tough state for Democrats. But with changing demographics, the Lone Star state will at some point become a purple state. It’s just a question of when that will happen.
Now we come to Senator Ted Cruz. Cruz abandoned his constituents when he took his trip to Mexico, and he also had the nerve to laugh about it at CPAC. Mr. Cruz can and will be challenged when he is up for reelection. And polling data has surfaced that cannot make the pathetic Senator happy.
Mr. Cruz’s popularity is on the decline. He has gone from Plus Six approval to Minus Five. Recent polling data shows voters disapprove rather than approve of the Mariachi loving Senator 48% (disapprove) to 43% (approve).
No doubt, Texas people, or at least many of them, are aware of the cowardly leadership in place. The good news is that there are also good people willing and able to fight the good fight to get these monsters out of office. We must do everything we can to help on that front.
