Don’t lose the plot
While we watch Trump’s indictment move ahead, and the circus it creates, we need to focus on other good things that are happening on the issue of abortion access…..a woman’s right to an abortion WILL BE center stage in the 2024 election, NOT Trump.
A year after Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court and deemed a ‘state issue,’ states have been busy working FOR WOMEN’S RIGHTS. A recent Gallup poll shows that 69% of Americans say abortion should be legal in the first trimester.
In some states voters went to the polls to validate fighting for abortion rights as in Wisconsin, where Janet Protasiewicz, won a Supreme Court seat promisjng that if elected the states abortion ban would be reversed. She won by 11%.
Most recently on 6/18/23 an Iowa vote to ban abortion after 6 weeks failed, because the State Supreme Court was deadlocked on whether to vacate a lower court’s injunction, therefore abortion in Iowa remains legal through 20 weeks.
In January 2023 Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota signed a bill to enshrine the states ALREADY existing protection so they remain in place no matter who sits on future courts.
When all is said and done, YOUR vote does matter. We need to be reminded that Republicans are NOT in the majority when you look at the American populace. They win where they gerrymander voting districts and by LYING to people.
How different the country would look if people voted differently in 2016, but that is ‘water under the bridge’ — now we need to continue to VOTE Democratic to remove from power Republicans that will ONLY seek to do Americans HARM. Most Americans are if favor of a “Woman’s Right to Reproductive Freedom” but we MUST make sure our VOTES send that message.
