Another one bites the dust

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The new favorite GQP pastime is whining about how mean and unfair President Biden is being by implementing a plan to forgive student loan debt, wiping out some or even all of it for many of our fellow Americans.

That includes former baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, who whined about how forgiveness was benefitting “a generation of lazy unaccountable uneducated children.” This is the same Curt Schilling who defaulted on a $75 million loan from Rhode Island for his company back in 2012. He left Rhode Island’s taxpayers on the hook for what he failed to pay back. Schilling’s behavior is just so typical. Those complaining the loudest tend to have government loans they didn’t pay back either by defaulting or having the loans forgiven.

Once the news reached Twitter, users responded by handing Schilling his ass and calling him out for his hypocrisy. This tweet is probably my favorite so far on this subject:

Here’s a quick tip for Republicans. Before you criticize how the President forgives government loans first make sure you don’t have any government loan financial skeletons in your own closet. And perhaps refrain from commenting on the subject at all. For one thing, you won’t look like a complete sanctimonious clod who’s spouting off that things are “fine for me but not for thee.” And for another, you’ll look like more of a human being who has empathy for others.

And finally, for those Republicans who claim to be Christian, as many have pointed out, their entire faith is based on a guy paying off a debt for humanity we could not possibly pay on our own. Maybe they should try reading their bibles instead of thumping them. Or sticking them where the sun doesn’t shine.
