All eyes on the January 5th Trump insurrection meeting

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Unlike QAnon, Texans know when a storm is brewing, especially after a dry spell. The west wind fills the air with a haze of dust and the cattle start tossing their horns and kicking at each other. Folks, we’ve just come through one helluva long dry spell from rationality. The Republican Party still insists on promoting fear and victimhood by harboring violent extremists and cuddling up to fringe crazies like Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Some members of Congress are insolently secreting handguns around Capitol metal detectors and defiantly hanging assault rifles on their office walls. This backfiring behavior has people mighty uneasy – as does Republicans’ enamored support for tinfoil hat conspiracy theories.

Republican politicians once marched lockstep on most issues and recited verbatim talking points. Panicked when voted out of power, a significant number have turned even further right seeking supporters. Now far right Liz Cheney and far righter Kevin McCarthy are battling over next week’s impeachment while McConnell worriedly referees. Marjorie Taylor Greene was rightfully booted off her committee assignments by an alliance of Democrats and 11 Republicans. At the hearing, Steny Hoyer exhibited Greene’s infamous campaign poster featuring her pointing an AR-15 at the faces of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. Now Greene asserts she was tricked into to believing QAnon phantasmagoria. How creepy is that? Her porch light’s on but no one’s home.

More videos of Jan 6 have exposed the madness of the ensuing herd behavior, including the trampling death of Rosanne Boyland by fellow rioters. A virtual tarot deck of insurrectionists has emerged from the hinterlands: Shaman, Harpy-Women, QAnon Doomsayers, Boogaloo Bois, Proud Boys, ex-military, ex-cops and assorted backwoods characters seen only at Christmas in Wal-Mart.

A meeting of Republican head honchos at Trump International Hotel Jan 5, the evening before the Capitol assault, looks plenty suspect. Charles Herbster, an attendee, posted a list of heavies who allegedly participated, including Tommy Tuberville; Donald Trump, Jr.; Peter Navarro; Eric Trump; Adam Piper; David Bossie; Corey Lewandowski; Michael Flynn and others yet unnamed. What mysterious prognostications could this charming crowd have been making? Time to reveal their hands in this card game. This Republican house of cards is collapsing as more rational Republicans sideline themselves as independents or join Democrats.
