Donald Trump, who was best known for pointlessly fake-firing people for absurd reasons on his reality show The Apprentice, is finally getting to do the same in the White House. He seems to know he can’t get away with firing the people who are in position to take him down, like Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein. Instead Trump is settling for firing the people he thinks he can get away with firing, like Rex Tillerson and Andrew McCabe. But one Congressman is making clear that Trump hasn’t gotten away with the McCabe firing.

Trump had Attorney General Jeff Sessions fire FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe last night, at the last possible moment before McCabe was set to retire with a full pension. The move served no real purpose other than to harm McCabe’s life, after Trump became falsely convinced that McCabe was some kind of Hillary Clinton plant. The move drew outrage from all corners, including Congress.

Trump posted this bizarre tweet about the firing just after midnight: “Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI – A great day for Democracy. Sanctimonious James Comey was his boss and made McCabe look like a choirboy. He knew all about the lies and corruption going on at the highest levels of the FBI!”

This prompted Congressman Eric Swalwell, who sits on one of the committees investigating the Trump-Russia scandal and has therefore seen much more evidence than is publicly known, to tweet this in response: “Gloat now, but you will be fired soon. And it’s not going to be done cowardly, as you’ve done to so many who’ve served you. There’s a storm gathering, Mr. President, and it’s going to wipe out you and your corrupt organization all the way down to the studs.”
