Wow is Donald Trump stupid
The thing about secret plots is that they generally have to remain secret in order to have a chance of succeeding. Donald Trump and Paul Manafort were conspiring against Special Counsel Robert Mueller, even as Manafort was engaged in a cooperation agreement with Mueller. Would this have gotten them anywhere? Maybe, if they hadn’t gotten caught. The crazy part is how blatantly Trump and his legal team gave it away.
Donald Trump’s star lawyer Rudy Giuliani flat out admitted to the New York Times last night that Trump and Manafort were indeed secretly plotting in this manner. This is the part where, if you were rooting for Team Trump, you’d scream “Nooooooo!” and then go dunk your head in a toilet repeatedly. But while Rudy is coughing up the secret plan to the media, it appears to have been Trump himself who tipped off Mueller.
How do we know this? Donald Trump’s tweets about this matter were such a dead giveaway, they tipped us off. Trump keeps tweeting about how “horribly” and “viciously” Robert Mueller has been treating the Trump-Russia probe players. As soon as we read this, it was clear to us that one of the players was speaking directly to Trump about what Mueller was doing. We didn’t have any way of figuring out which player it was. But when you consider what Mueller knows from the inside, it probably took him five minutes to figure out that it was Manafort.
So, thanks to Donald Trump’s idiotic tweets and his lawyer’s idiotic mouth, the big secret plot between Trump and Paul Manafort has promptly crashed and burned. Trump and Manafort appear to have gained nothing from this scheme because they gave away the game so early, and Trump now potentially faces additional obstruction of justice charges, even as Manafort will get a far longer prison sentence – and he can’t be pardoned on any state charges.
