Mike Pence wigs out
Mike Pence doesn’t foam at the mouth like Donald Trump does. Pence doesn’t go on unhinged Twitter rants. He doesn’t give the kind of bombastic speeches that make him sound like he belongs in a rubber room. But based on his extremist and inhuman views on social and political issues, Pence is arguably even more deranged than Trump is. Based on his actions, Pence is also every bit as much of a criminal liar as Trump is. Now that Pence is finally feeling the heat for being a piece of crap, he’s wigging out.
Even after the heads of numerous U.S. intel agencies confirmed that the Russians did meddle in the election, while also affirming that their agencies did not evaluate the question of whether Russia’s efforts changed the outcome of the election, Mike Pence felt compelled to lie about it. He made this statement to the media: “Irrespective of efforts that were made in 2016 by foreign powers, it is the universal conclusion of our intelligence communities that none of those efforts had any impact on the outcome of the 2016 election.” Of course this is factually untrue.
That lie hasn’t gone over particularly well. Now Pence is finally facing blowback for his ongoing lies. So how’s he handling the fallout? Rachel Maddow put it this way today: “Office of the VP is just refusing to return calls or make any comment on it. For now, his false statement still stands.” In other words, Pence and his people aren’t even willing to speak to the media about his big Russia lie.
Now that he’s being asked for clarification, Mike Pence isn’t willing to repeat his Russia lie to the media, nor is he willing to back down from it. When the (supposed) Vice President of the United States has backed himself into such a corner that he’s not even returning phone calls from major media outlets, it’s fair to say he’s wigging out. This isn’t sustainable. What will Pence do as the heat continues to be turned up on him?
