Donald Trump waves the white flag on Michael Cohen
Donald Trump is so busy these days tweeting conspiratorial nonsense about an “FBI lover boy” and rambling incoherently about how he has “no organ,” he can’t be bothered to tell us what he thinks about the particulars of the criminal investigation that’s in the process of taking him down. Instead he has the mentally incompetent Rudy Giuliani for that, which is fitting if you think about it. Accordingly, Rudy just gave away that Trump is waving the white flag when it comes to Michael Cohen.
Over the past two weeks, Michael Cohen has sent one increasingly strong hint after another that he’s going to cut a plea deal against Donald Trump. Cohen has done everything from having his friends leak to the media that he’s going to flip, to severing his joint legal defense with Trump, to removing all references to Trump from his Twitter and LinkedIn pages. Trump hasn’t said anything about it, but now Rudy has.
Over the weekend Rudy Giuliani conducted his first television interview in weeks, with ABC News. When asked about the possibility of Michael Cohen cutting a plea deal against Trump, Rudy responded that “Cohen should cooperate with the government.” Back in the real world, Trump absolutely does not want Cohen turning over evidence and testimony against him, as Cohen has spent decades cleaning up his ugliest scandals, and knows where all the bodies are buried.
This is the kind of thing you only say after you know you’ve lost, in an attempt at saving face. It’s like getting dumped and then claiming it was a mutual decision. Donald Trump, through his mouthpiece Rudy Giuliani, is waving the white flag on Michael Cohen. He knows Cohen is flipping on him, he knows there’s nothing he can do to stop it, and so he’s trying to push the notion that he doesn’t care.
