While at North Korea summit, Donald Trump has another berserk meltdown
Donald Trump has arrived in Singapore for what is supposed to be the most important summit of his failing and illegitimate presidency, so one would think he might be at least somewhat focused on his meeting with Kim Jon Un. Ah, but that’s not the case – not even close. In fact, just now, Trump launched into another berserk meltdown. This time around, the circumstances are weirder than ever.
Twenty-four hours ago, Trump launched into a deranged Twitter rant about Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him names and accusing him of being a liar. Then Trump’s account went silent for a full day, which stood out as odd, even when you consider the differing time zones. Now Trump’s account has sprung back to life, and – you guessed it – he’s once again attacking Trudeau. But here’s the odd part: we don’t think he wrote it.
Last night two different tweets attacking Trudeau, each conveying the same message but worded entirely differently, both showed up on Donald Trump’s Twitter account within two minutes of each other. It was clear that at least one of them was written and posted by someone other than Trump. This evening, after the twenty-four hour quiet period, Trump’s account came to life and retweeted Dan Scavino, his social media director. Then just nine minutes later, Trump began ranting about Trudeau.
We thought it was so obvious, we replied to Trump’s tweet and pointed out that it appeared Scavino, and not Trump, was posting the rant about Trudeau. Then, in the middle of the rant, Trump’s Twitter account once again retweeted Scavino – only to quickly undo the retweet. Then the rant about Trudeau started up again. This is surreal, considering that Trump’s retweets of Scavino and other staffers usually tend to be hours removed from Trump’s own first-person rants, at a time when he’s obviously nowhere near Twitter.
Who is running Trump’s Twitter account at this point? Why is someone using Trump’s account to retweet Trump’s social media director, at the same exact time that Trump himself is supposedly posting rants about Justin Trudeau? Donald Trump is, for at least a bit longer, the President of the United States. Yet the increasingly strange activity on his primary Twitter account suggests that no one in the administration – including Trump himself – is sure of who’s in charge of the account anymore. And we’re no longer even sure that Trump is the one posting the rants about Canada. These people are in chaos.
