When you’ve lost John Bolton…

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

John Bolton has called for Donald Trump to immediately withdraw from the Presidential race. It’s not surprising that Bolton would do this. His big issue is foreign policy, and he’s said time and again that he may have to run for President himself to stop Donald Trump.

“Criminal Charges are piling up around him,” Bolton said soberly, on Twitter. “Withdraw now!” Bolton said that if Trump truly cared about “America first,” he would immediately withdraw from the race.

Of course Donald Trump doesn’t give a damn about America, as we’ve seen. Yet it’s difficult to see how his candidacy moves forward. At the rate he’s going, his whole life will involve court appearances, court proceedings, and many a rant on truth social.

Still, Bolton was 100 percent right to call him out. And I think Bolton should get into the race, perhaps as an independent. He would certainly bring some votes. I could see moderate Republicans who still believe in the rule of law voting for him.

As for other presidential candidates on the GOP side, most seem like they have no idea what in the world to say about the indictment. Tim Scott, Mike Pence, and Ron DeSantis are having a hapless time, contradicting themselves all over the place as they struggle to come up with a strategy for dealing with Trump.

So, all in all, it’s a shitshow for the GOP. Trump should take Bolton’s advice and drop out, and more republicans should echo Bolton’s sentiments. But being that they’re Republicans and live in fear of Trump’s every move, I doubt that they will.
