What they’re not telling Trump
If you’ve ever dealt with someone who’s suffering from advanced dementia, you know that you can convince them of just about anything, no matter how obviously untrue. Now imagine that same advanced dementia patient is also a malignant narcissist, and you have your explanation for what just happened yesterday.
Donald Trump got up and gave a speech so incoherent and childlike, he might as well have been holding a sign that said “I have dementia.” At one point he announced that he’s “terminated health.” He had the speech in front of him and he still couldn’t figure out how to say the words on the page. Trump also said something else: he claimed that his approval rating is up to 71%. That’s right, 71%.
Short of something like a post-9/11 environment, no U.S. President ever has an approval rating that high. In fact Donald Trump entered office last month with the lowest approval rating for an incoming President ever, hovering in the forties, and this week he dropped into the low forties. For a President who’s still in his first month, this number is insanely low. Trump is unpopular on an unprecedented level. It usually takes months or even a year for a new President to drop into the forties, no matter how bad of a job they’re doing.
For some bizarre reason nearly the entire media has been pretending for the past month that Trump’s approval rating is historically high. But with several new polls out this week making it clear that his already-low approval rating is dropping further, the media seems to be finally starting to acknowledge that Trump is indeed unpopular.
Some of that media coverage is undoubtedly going to reach Trump’s ears, if it hasn’t already. And so now his babysitters have tried to preempt this by telling him that he has a sky high 71% approval rating. No mentally and cognitively competent person serving as President would believe it’s that high. Yet Trump appears to have swallowed this laughably fake number without questioning it. It’s all the proof you need that he’s not mentally competent, and that his babysitters are merely trying to keep him pacified as what’s left of his brain continues to die.
