What Donald Trump doesn’t get

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The thing about an inherently sexist guy like Donald Trump is that sometimes he likes to make a point of reminding us what a sexist prick he is, and sometimes it’s just on display by default. Even as Trump has revealed himself to be an almost gleeful mass murderer over the past few days, he also keeps finding ways to remind us of just how pathetically sexist he is.

At one point during his latest disastrous press conference today, Donald Trump made a casual reference to “Dr. Fauci or Deb.” This was in reference to the two medical experts on stage, both of whom are doctors, both of whom have the same MD degree. The only difference, as far as Trump is concerned, is that one of them is a woman – so she didn’t get the honorific.

If we were dealing with someone else who didn’t have a history of sexism, we could look at the larger context here and try to determine if this was merely a happenstance thing. Maybe this time he says “Dr. Fauci or Deb” and next time he says “Tony or Dr. Birx.” But we all know that’s not what’s going on when it comes to Trump, because he just reminded us of that.

Donald Trump was already coming off a press conference in which he complained about the Governor of Washington and “the woman in Michigan.” In Trump’s mind, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer isn’t even a governor. All he sees is a woman, which means her professional status doesn’t exist in his mind. It’s just the way this creep operates. In addition to everything else that’s wrong with Trump, he’s just as cravenly sexist as ever.
