What does the Secret Service think it’s even doing?
It does seem sometimes that we’re living in a movie script. This is because of the bizarre happenings lately, the latest being the actions of the Secret Service. The recent bombshells about the Secret Service have the potential to become a gigantic scandal.
The news about the deleted texts was stunning. It’s stunning that this could even happen. And the severe nature of their actions can’t be ignored.
Dan Rather said it perfectly on Twitter: “What is happening with the Secret Service? What secrets might they be hiding in service to the former President? Urgent questions. The gravity of this situation cannot be underestimated or allowed to proceed without answers.”
I have no doubt that we WILL get answers. The January 6 committee is not going to let this go. The American people won’t either. And their denials appear weak at best, sloppily obtuse at worst. Their denial methods seems to be falling into a sort of pattern: saying indignantly that whatever they’re accused of isn’t true, then crickets. The lack of professionalism is stunning.
This is not the first scandal the Secret Service has had. But it just might be the most serious thus far. As one person on social media said about it: “I thought they were the good guys.”
They are indeed supposed to be. But actions speak louder than words — a whole heck of a lot louder — and judging by their efforts thus far; they may have a great deal to answer for. And the January 6 committee was briefed by the DHS Inspector General. And they will want answers.
It is inconceivable that they might have deleted text messages from the day of the worst American terrorist attack ever. Tampering with evidence? I am no legal expert. But something stinks in the Secret Service. Their behavior is bizarre, to say the least, and we all need answers quickly.
