What does CNN think it’s doing?

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

It’s gone from bad to worse for Cable network CNN. Per Forbes, their ratings are collapsing — even more than before. Nielson television data show that viewership from the “key” demographic — the 25-54-year-old crowd — has dwindled to an average of just 126,000.

That’s pretty shocking by any standard. CNN has been hampered by personnel scandals, firings, and horrible programming in the last few months. They still have not hired anybody to take over Chris Cuomo’s slot. Some of the Anchors that HAVE been featured seem angry and skittish. I don’t think I’m being too hard on CNN when I say the network is falling apart.

Lots of focus is on the CNN+ streaming service that will be rolled out in the not-to-distant future. But in the meantime, CNN still has a network to run. And it does appear they are bereft of leadership — and quality talent. CNN needs to do something, and they need to do it fast.

I do hope they will think about bringing in some new talent. CNN desperately needs a reset. Over the last few months, much more attention has been paid to the scandals of some of its employees rather than the news coming OUT of the network.

It’s never a good thing when the ones reporting the news actually become the news — not good at all. So what will CNN do? I hope they will take stock of where they are and do an internal network inventory. I’d like for CNN to succeed. We do need effective counters to Fox non-news. But to succeed, CNN has to win back its core audience. And it appears that is no easy task for the struggling network.
