Well that sure blew up in Donald Trump’s face

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There’s a debate to be had about which 2020 Democratic candidate would make the best President of the United States, and there’s yet another debate to be had about which 2020 Democratic candidate would have the best chance of defeating Donald Trump in the election. I’m not going to get into either of those right now, but I am going to point out that Trump very much thinks Joe Biden is his biggest threat.

We know this because Donald Trump went so far as to try to blackmail a foreign country into making up a fake scandal about Joe Biden, in the hope that the scandal would knock Biden out of the race. Trump was clearly hoping to face anyone but Biden in the general election, because he thought he’d have the worst odds against Biden. Even now that Trump is being impeached, he’s instructed his stooges to focus on trying to push the fake Biden scandal during impeachment hearings instead of mounting an actual defense. Trump is as desperate as ever to knock Biden out of the race. Well guess what?

In the current average of polls, Joe Biden leads the entire Democratic field by twelve points. He’s actually further ahead of the field now than when the impeachment process began. Biden’s poll numbers against Trump are just as strong as ever as well. All this high-risk scheming, and Trump hasn’t manage to put a dent in Biden’s candidacy – at all.

That’s not to say Joe Biden will be the nominee. There’s plenty of time for the 2020 Democratic primary race to unfold in any number of directions, and plenty of candidates with a shot at winning the nomination. But it’s already clear that if Biden doesn’t win the nomination, it won’t be because of Donald Trump’s Ukraine antics. If anything, Biden is in better shape than when Trump’s antics began. This has blown up in Trump’s face.
