There’s something really weird going on with this Jerome Corsi plea deal

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. On Friday, multiple major media outlets reported that far-right conspiracy theorist Jerome Corsi was negotiating a plea deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller in relation to the Trump-Russia scandal. Shortly after the story broke, Corsi confirmed to the media that this was indeed the case. The thing is, if you take a look at his Twitter page on Friday night, it’s like something out of an alternate universe.

The entire point of a cooperating plea deal is to cooperate with prosecutors – on every level – in exchange for leniency. That means not only giving up all the information you have on yourself and everyone else involved, but also publicly keeping quiet, and doing nothing to stand in the way of the prosecution. The more cooperative you are, the better deal you get. The worse of a cooperator you are, the longer you spend in prison. But in the hours after Corsi confirmed that he’s negotiating a deal, he began unloading on Mueller in surreal fashion.

On Friday night the @jerome_corsi Twitter account began retweeting things from Corsi’s supporters like “WE THE PEOPLE KNOW UR INNOCENT😠😠👍👍MUELLER IS A CROOK” and “Don’t Cooperate with Mueller, Dr Corsi. He is a Criminal. You will be pardoned.” Wait, this is not how someone tends to talk while they’re negotiating a plea deal. In fact, tweets like this can torpedo someone’s chances of getting a favorable deal, or getting a deal at all. And if Trump-Russia people like Michael Cohen didn’t get pardoned, then someone like Corsi – who is Roger Stone’s friend and isn’t even connected to Trump – is obviously not getting a pardon. So what’s really going on here?

A few possibilities come to mind. One would be that Jerome Corsi is going back and forth on whether to cut a deal in rather emphatic fashion. Another possibility could be that he’s not in charge of his Twitter account at the moment, and that one of his social media handlers is using the account to try to convince him not to flip. In any case, this is unprecedented for someone who, just hours ago, confirmed he was negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors.
