The Rudy Giuliani train wreck comes full circle

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Rudy Giuliani made a mundane statement to a reporter yesterday, which – if nothing else – suggests that he’s indeed still alive. This is a bit of a revelation, after the normally motormouth Rudy disappeared from Twitter ten days ago. Maybe he’s stopped tweeting for the same reason Fox News has. Maybe Rudy has lost his limited remaining ability to read and write. Or maybe he’s just shellshocked by the sheer stupidity of what Donald Trump did the day before he stopped tweeting.

That’s the day that Donald Trump decided to fire Jeff Sessions and replace him on an acting basis with Matthew Whitaker. Trump clearly thought this was a winning move, even though everyone else knew this was going to be a disaster. Why did Trump think that hiring a scandalous butt-kissing idiot as Acting Attorney General was going to somehow work out for him? Probably because Trump didn’t face any blowback when he hired another scandalous butt-kissing idiot – Rudy Giuliani – to be his criminal defense attorney.

In Trump’s withered mind, the Rudy hiring worked out great for him. Rudy kept going on television and running his mouth loudly in Trump’s defense, allowing Trump to feel like he was winning some kind of public relations battle. But back in the real world, there’s a reason why Special Counsel Robert Mueller never tried to challenge Trump’s decision to hire Rudy, even though Rudy is clearly a target in the Trump-Russia scandal: what better stroke of luck for Mueller than when Trump put a blithering idiot in charge of his defense team?

Because everyone has sat back and allowed Donald Trump to think that he did something smart by hiring Rudy Giuliani as his lawyer, Trump decided to use the same formula in hiring Matt Whitaker. But in this instance, no one involved is content to let Trump have an Acting Attorney General who is one of his own corrupt lackeys, and appears to be a witness or subject in the Trump-Russia scandal. Not shockingly, Whitaker is blowing back on Trump big time. Meanwhile, Rudy seems to be stunned into silence.
