We can’t just assume this is going to happen

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Something important needs to be talked about. We’ve been saying for a long time to get the independents and the people not consumed by politics involved. Now many people might make a list of potential voters they know and leave some people off, thinking they’re already involved. And that would be wrong.

Allow me to tell you a story of what happened to me this week and how it relates to you and the 2022 midterm elections. I have a friend in one of their central swing states. Let’s say it’s Wisconsin. During a conversation with her, I casually brought up the subject of voting. She’d forgotten all about the midterms.

Oh wow — that’s right. I’d better make a plan, she said. This woman is educated, smart and independent. But you see, life had got in the way. And in just a few seconds, the importance of this year’s elections came flooding back.

I tell you this to emphasize that for many of us — we may not know who is and is not planning to vote. Some might plan to but might forget. Life may get in the way. It’s imperative that we not write anybody off.

This story really happened to me just this week. And it can be tempting, I think, as we look over who we know to think to ourselves: “Not so and so.” “They will vote no matter what.”

Please don’t do that. Tell EVERYONE you know to vote. Shout it from the rooftops. Because we really do NOT know who is aware and who is not.

Some of these races might be won by a measly few votes. Imagine if the race is decided by that small a margin. All of our votes mean something. And the worst that could happen when you speak to someone is they say they already are aware.

So, please — when you make that list — include everyone, all the voices, all the people you know, from all over. We must have a turnout that astounds. Then we can reap the rewards.
