Watching the wheels

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

An hour from now the Supreme Court could announce its ruling on Donald Trump’s immunity claim, setting the stage for a possible Trump federal criminal trial before the election. Or the Supreme Court could decide to wait another week because, well, just because.

Any day now Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg could submit his sentencing recommendation for Trump’s New York criminal trial. The sentencing hearing isn’t until July 11th, but Bragg’s recommendation could come sooner. Then we’ll find out whether Bragg is indeed seeking prison time for Trump.

We’re also waiting on more polls to help confirm what the past half dozen polls have already pointed to: President Biden has taken a slight lead in the wake of Trump’s felony conviction. Polls – especially this far out – do not define an election. But if Biden keeps pulling ahead, and if the media keeps talking about how Biden has pulled ahead, it’ll allow the Biden 2024 campaign to gain some momentum. These things can end up being a self fulfilling prophecy.

We’re also waiting to see how Trump’s sentencing hearing further impacts his political viability. We’re also waiting to see just how much worse Trump’s dementia gets, and how it’ll impact his political status.

There just seems to be a lot of waiting involved. I don’t know about you, but it’s not my thing. When you’re sitting around waiting for news to drop, it means you’re not doing anything to try to win. It also creates a vacuum which tends to get filled with doomsday hysteria, which certainly doesn’t help your odds of winning.

So heading into this Friday and this weekend, it’s a good opportunity for each of you to think about how you want to impact this election. Are you going to donate and volunteer for the candidates in the close races? Are you going to knock on doors or send postcards? Are you going to strategically retweet the Democratic Party and the Democratic candidates in order to help amplify their messaging?

We’re all here because we want to win. We each have a role to play, big or small, in that victory. The election is just a little more than four months away. If we don’t get involved now, we’re going to spend the next four years regretting it. So let’s each spend the weekend thinking about our own personal gameplan for fighting and winning. And then let’s each come back on Monday and start putting that gameplan into action. If we put in the work, I promise you, we can win it all. Happy Friday.
