Donald Trump just gave away something big with his latest Walter Reed story
It’s not clear what Donald Trump was hoping to accomplish when he called in to the Sean Hannity show on Thursday night. He spent most of the “interview” rambling incoherently, even as Hannity tried and failed to keep him on track. Trump’s most revealing moment was when he began ranting about Walter Reed Medical Center.
Donald Trump claimed that he “very recently” visited Walter Reed and took a cognitive test while he was there. There are only two possibilities here. One is that he’s talking about a real or imaginary recent visit. The other is that he’s referring to his now infamous Walter Reed trip late last year, which was anything but “recent.” Either way, Trump is insisting that he took a cognitive test while he was there, and that the doctors were “surprised” at how well he did on it.
Again, we don’t know if Walter Reed actually performed this test, or if Trump is just making up the entire story. But here’s the thing. Trump just said that the doctors were surprised he did well on the cognitive test. Think about that. He’s painting a scenario in which the doctors were expecting him to do poorly on a cognitive exam, which asks basic questions to essentially determine if you’re senile or not.
Donald Trump is saying that the doctors thought he was senile until they tested him and found out he wasn’t. He just gave away that he knows other people perceive him as being some degree of senile when they interact with him. Even in what is probably a made up story, he still has the other characters perceiving him as senile. Trump must be getting treated this way by his handlers, and he must have picked up on it, and now he’s defensive about it.
