Donald Trump takes his villainy to a whole new level
You know those movies where the villain tries to paint himself as being one of the good guys, or a victim? You know those movies are nearing their climax when the villain finally drops all pretense of propriety and begins openly embracing just how evil and grotesque he truly is. That’s the general feeling I can’t help but get when I take a look at what Donald Trump has said and done over the past day and a half.
Trump has been rather openly villainous for as long as he’s been in politics. But for awhile there, he was at least pretending to be on Team America, pretending that was somehow on our side, if only as a cover so he could pillage and plunder our nation from within the Oval Office. But after having spent awhile ramping up the notion, Trump is now flat out declaring that Canada is his enemy – and that Kim Jong Un of North Korea is his friend. Um, no.
Even as he was embracing one of Kim Jong Un’s goons in the White House yesterday, Trump was tweeting this: “Canada has treated our Agricultural business and Farmers very poorly for a very long period of time. Highly restrictive on Trade! They must open their markets and take down their trade barriers! They report a really high surplus on trade with us. Do Timber & Lumber in U.S.?”
Trump knows that he can’t swing any corrupt deals with Canada that will line his own personal pockets, because Justin Trudeau doesn’t roll that way. So he’s always seen Canada as useless. Now he’s no longer even trying to hide the fact that he sees one of the United States’ most important allies as his personal enemy. And why should he worry about appearances at this point? Everything is going wrong for him, he knows his time is short, he doesn’t know precisely how much more time he has left to continue plundering, and he doesn’t have time to waste on pretense.
This comes even as Donald Trump is tightly aligning himself with Kim Jong Un, a corrupt monster, because he thinks there might be something in it for him personally. Trump is no longer even trying to hide the fact that his agenda in office has nothing in common with the United States whatsoever. It’s also a sign that we’re nearing the end, and in these movies, the villain never wins.
