Veni, Vidi, Vici
Veni, Vidi, Vici. “I came, I saw, I conquered.” These were the words of Julius Caesar after winning a battle in Asia Minor (Now Turkey.) But can we not use this term for another warrior — a resplendent warrior who is our hero and friend?
A man who came. Saw. and conquered. And has announced plans to do it again — in 2024. President Biden has announced he’s in! He is running for a second term. Years ago, our country hung in the balance. We were locked in a nightmare many of us couldn’t comprehend and didn’t understand.
And he came. President Biden. So many wrote him off. He’ll never beat Trump, these people said dismissively. But he did. He came, and he ran. He did it, he said, to restore the “soul of America.”
You see, he’d seen. He saw the festering America of Donald Trump’s dreams. He saw it all — the sordidness, the savagery, the pain. And he decided to conquer. So he threw his hat in the Presidential ring.
And this gentle wise-owl of the night, this golden hope whom many had written off — conquered. He conquered a madman, winning the hearts of millions in the process. And the spoils of war were his.
Only they were ours too. This is because President Biden believes in unity, not toxicity. He believes the soul of America is a diamond — not a black hole. He sees America as she is — he sees all the colors that make her up.
The flowing browns and golds, the mightiest black, the delicate white, the old, the young, the poor, the wealthy, the youth and the elderly, the forgotten, the fearful, and the idealistic.
President Biden saw it all, and he conquered hate with the freshness of love — and brought about new days and vivid beginnings.
So yes, these words are for him — we drink a loving cup to him. We say Veni, Vidi, Vici as he prepares to launch a second run. And we stand behind him as we head off into one of the most important elections of our lifetimes.
