Robert Mueller might as well go on vacation
It’s long been reported that Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team have been working six days a week ever since taking over the Trump-Russia investigation, which is impressive when you consider that Donald Trump is probably working less than six hours a week. But at this point, the way things are going right now, Mueller might as well just go on vacation.
In the fictional television show The West Wing, an FBI agent once told the President that no amount of smart investigative work could ever be as effective as criminals doing stupid things. Donald Trump and the people around him are now doing so many “stupid criminal” things this week, I’ve lost count. Rudy Giuliani opened his mouth and found a way to incriminate Trump in the AT&T bribery scandal. Michael Cohen tried and failed to obtain a bribe from Ford Motor Company, and he botched it so badly that Ford ratted him out to the Feds. That’s just the half of it.
Trump’s people are now working overtime to incriminate themselves and their boss. We don’t know what Trump himself is doing. Apparently nothing at all. He barely even bothers to tweet anymore. But when it comes to his staff, well, let’s just say that at least they’re showing they can work hard at something. At this rate Trump’s goons are doing everything but marching into the grand jury room and writing out their own indictments.
Of course we don’t really want Robert Mueller going on vacation. He’s still hammering away at Donald Trump and his criminal co-conspirators, one day at a time, as quickly as the legal system allows him to move. But at the rate the Trump goon squad is imploding this week, they’re only serving to make Mueller’s job that much easier – and they’re speeding up Trump’s demise.
