Donald Trump was quiet throughout last night’s Democratic National Convention, suggesting he was either stunned into silence or his handlers were distracting him with reruns of Knight Rider. After the convention was over, Trump tried to make up for it by trying to make news of his own. The trouble: it was about something that doesn’t exist.

In the middle of the night Trump announced that he’d just gotten word that Kamala Harris is pulling out of their September 4th Fox News debate. This would be news, if such a debate existed to begin with. Trump has invented an imaginary debate, and now he’s inventing imaginary news about that imaginary debate.

This is just getting sad. Did Trump’s handlers tell him that there was a Fox News debate just to sate him, or is Trump just outright hallucinating about the debates? In any case, it’ll be interesting to see what happens if and when Trump tries to show up to the real debate on ABC News. Don’t expect it to go well for him.
