Donald Trump’s unpatriotic meltdown
Donald Trump proved that he’s a traitor when he stood next to Russian President Vladimir Putin and sided with Russia over the government of the United States. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is on his way to proving that Trump also committed treason when he and his campaign conspired with Russia to rig the election in his favor. In the meantime, Trump seems more intent than ever on revealing just how unpatriotic he can be.
This time around Donald Trump decided to call for a boycott of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. This is surreal, considering how many of Trump’s supporters are bikers. In fact he just met with a gang of them over the weekend at his golf resort. Yet now he’s insisting that his own supporters are doing something wrong if they’re riding a Harley, because, well, Trump just doesn’t like the company.
Yes, Harley-Davidson is moving American jobs overseas. But so are a lot of other companies, and Donald Trump hasn’t done a thing to stop any of them from doing it. Instead, because he once publicly called on Harley to keep its jobs here, and the company defied him, it’s now personal for him. Here’s what Trump tweeted about it: “Many Harley-Davidson owners plan to boycott the company if manufacturing moves overseas. Great! Most other companies are coming in our direction, including Harley competitors. A really bad move! U.S. will soon have a level playing field, or better.”
To be clear, there is no evidence that any Harley-Davidson owners are planning to do any such thing; Donald Trump is simply making things up as usual. But his decision to single out an iconic American brand for boycott, simply because he feels foolish after having publicly failed to bully the company to bend to his will, is simply unpatriotic. Of course for all we know, Trump may have a personal financial incentive for attacking Harley – in which case what he’s doing would be criminal in addition to being un-American.
