Ugly new scandal for yet another House Republican
House Republicans are no stranger to scandals these days, but this one is just ugly. House Republican Anthony D’Esposito allegedly had an affair and then turned around and hired his alleged mistress to work in his congressional office. There’s always the debate about what role infidelity scandals should play in politics. But hiring your mistress for your campaign, if that’s what D’Esposito did, is a good way to turn your infidelity scandal into a serious political scandal.
The kicker is that D’Esposito is already in a very close reelection contest. His NY-04 race is rated “toss up” by the nonpartisan experts, which means it’s expected to be decided by as little as a point or two. Now, with less than six weeks to go, D’Esposito has an ugly scandal to deal with.
This sets up a prime opportunity for the Democrats to flip NY-04 in November, which could make the difference in the House majority. You can support Democratic House candidate Laura Gillan here.
