Donald Trump allegedly confessed his inauguration crimes to two witnesses, at least one of whom has testified against him
On Monday evening, multiple major news outlets reported that the SDNY has subpoenaed the financial records from Donald Trump’s inauguration committee, and intends to bring criminal charges ranging from conspiracy to defraud the United States, to money laundering, to wire fraud. This has led to some debate among pundits about who’s being specifically targeted. There isn’t much reason for such a debate.
Logically speaking, the SDNY wouldn’t bother to carry out a case like this if the criminal conspiracy weren’t being led by Donald Trump and his family and/or friends. To that end, there are clues across the board that potentially tie Trump and his inner circle to this inaugural scandal. For instance, there was a report in December that Ivanka Trump was caught up in it. There was also a report in January that Rudy Giuliani was caught up in it. But the real target is Donald Trump, obviously, and he’s allegedly already confessed to it.
Donald Trump originally put Chris Christie in charge of the transition, but then quickly fired him and replaced him with Mike Pence. Various supposed explanations have surfaced for this, but none of them have ever been confirmed. Here’s the thing. According to the Michael Lewis book The Fifth Risk, as unearthed by Daily Kos, it turns out Trump’s decision to fire Christie had something to do with Trump’s desire to pocket the money. Check out this rather profane passage from the book:
Trump was apoplectic, actually yelling, You’re stealing my money! You’re stealing my fucking money! What the fuck is this?? Seeing Bannon, Trump turned on him and screamed, Why are you letting him steal my fucking money? Bannon and Christie together set out to explain to Trump federal law. […] To which Trump replied, Fuck the law. I don’t give a fuck about the law. I want my fucking money. Bannon and Christie tried to explain that Trump couldn’t have both his money and a transition.
If this is accurate, it means Donald Trump confessed his criminal intent to at least two witnesses, Christie and Bannon, before going ahead and stealing the inauguration money. Bannon has reportedly since spent twenty hours or more testifying to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. If Bannon has indeed been fully cooperative, it means Mueller already has a witness to Trump’s confession – and by extension, so does SDNY.
