Twitter temporarily suspends Donald Trump account; Facebook deletes Donald Trump post

Up to now we’ve seen Twitter take middling action against Donald Trump over his most deranged tweets, in a few instances deleting them due to containing harmful false information, and in other instances slapping warning labels on them for being too violent. We’ve seen Facebook hesitant to take any action against Trump at all. But tonight that’s finally starting to change.

Donald Trump actually has two official verified Twitter accounts, @RealDonald Trump and @TeamTrump. This evening Twitter temporarily suspended his @TeamTrump account from making any additional tweets, due to having tweeted false coronavirus information. This is a big deal, because it means Twitter has in fact finally hit Donald Trump with a suspension, even if it’s not against his infamous @RealDonaldTrump account. This comes after Twitter temporarily suspended Donald Trump Jr last week for making false coronavirus posts.

Facebook also made news tonight by deleting one of Donald Trump’s posts that contained false coronavirus information. This is all too little too late, of course. Twitter has been too lenient toward Trump when he’s violated its rules, and Facebook has been letting Trump get away with literally anything. But the point is that even the social networks are finally deciding to cover their backsides as Trump circles the drain. It’s a sign that they’re betting against him surviving this.
