We’re in the Twilight Zone

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When all is said and done, Michael Cohen could end up being the John Dean of his era, or he could end up being a long forgotten bit player in the saga of Donald Trump’s downfall. Time, and the evidence he’s turned over against Trump, will tell. But yesterday, Cohen served as the ultimate barometer for just how far through the looking glass we’ve all traveled.

Michael Cohen started off yesterday by retweeting a Veterans Day tribute on Twitter to the late John McCain. In ordinary times this would be standard fare, as everyone on both sides of the political aisle has always been able to at least agree that McCain was a war hero. The surreal part here is that Cohen offered this homage to McCain partly to stick it to his former boss Donald Trump – because as we all know, “President” Trump has insisted that McCain wasn’t a war hero. Then it got stranger.

Last night Michael Cohen posted this tweet: “Watching Becoming Michelle Obama on ABC 2020 and pray that her words bring back unity to our country.” That’s right, Donald Trump’s former henchman is now a fan of Michelle Obama. This comes shortly after Michelle classily slammed Trump for his harmful antics. This was the extraordinarily rare instance of a former First Lady openly condemning a sitting President, and yet that wasn’t even widely seen as controversial, because Michelle was so obviously correct in what she said.

So yeah, we’ve got Michael Cohen aligning himself with John McCain and Michelle Obama, in an act of defiance against Donald Trump. We’ve reached the point where the most rebellious thing anyone can do to the “President” of the United States these days is to praise an American war hero and a beloved First Lady.
