Turns out the New York AG’s criminal probe of the Trump Organization has been going for months

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When the New York Attorney General’s office announced last night that its civil probe into the Trump Organization had turned into a criminal investigation, one of the big questions was how long ago it happened. Was this a new development, or merely a newly announced development? Now we’re getting our answer.

It turns out the New York AG has been criminally investigating Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg over his taxes for months, according to a new report from CNN tonight. This tells us a couple of important things.

First, it helps confirm our suspicion that at least part of this is about getting Allen Weisselberg to realize he’s headed to prison, so he’ll cut a deal against the Trump family now, instead of holding out until after he loses a lengthy trial battle.

Second and perhaps more importantly, this suggests that New York Attorney General Tish James made last night’s announcement not because she’s onto something, but because she’s near the end of something. This is starting to feel like an endgame announcement, where she already got her ducks lined up in a row against the Trump Organization, and she’s simply steering the media and the public to focus on what she’s about to do. Michael Cohen, who has met with New York prosecutors repeatedly about Trump, thinks indictments are close.
